 I start each of my mixed media "Recess" paintings by building up a dense surface using acrylic, watercolor, pencil and pastel in many layers.   I then use collage materials to create vaguely figurative shapes, engaged in exuberant often goofy behavior. These collage elements vary from econometric notes, orchestral score or torn up maps.  I continue to build up the surface with many more layers until the final layer of cold wax.
