6 am

"6 am" is a mixed media piece on 14 x 11" Yupo paper.  Yupo paper is a very smooth surface that is slow to absorb liquid.  I started drawing ink  with a brush,  letting puddles of ink form in places.  I then brought the piece to a gestural figure drawing with a model.  I used watercolor pencil to do blind contour drawings, drawing while only looking at the model not my paper.  I've always liked the variety of line that results when you are not looking at the page.  The final step was to spatter some blue acrylic.  The piece expresses the discombobulation of 6 am when you must get up and you are just not ready.
